This choir at Calf Pen Meadow School in Milford, CT consisted of selected 4th & 5th graders. Children love singing in a variety of languages, whether in a choral ensemble or in the general music classroom. "Umma Momote" (People Everywhere) combines Swahili and English text, inviting the listener to "come and join the fun!"
I guided the choir in a recording session in the music room with a high quality system to produce this track. I had pre-recorded the piano accompaniment (with a "bass" played on the keyboard). Students first added the hand claps and rhythm instruments. Then we recorded vocals on top of that, going back to fix a spot or two so they could experience the "magic" of technology in sound recording.
